Anise is a natural deodorizer, often used in soap making. It is used in making liqueurs such as Pernod (which Kestra will never again drink after an unfortunate encounter in college with a bottle or two) and is said to be emotionally balancing. Its scent can help the mind to focus.
Anise essential oil can be an irritant to those with sensitive skin, so do not use on your body without diluting and then testing on a small patch of skin. The essential oil is made from the the plant's seeds, and has been said to be an aphrodisiac.
The sweet smell of anise essential oil is often used to flavor items like cold medication, or to sweeten the scent of ointments or balms. Since it smells so nice, and might remind one of black licorice, care must be taken to keep it out of the reach of children. If ingested in large amounts, anise essential oil could have very bad effects, and you should seek medical help immediately after accidental ingestion.
Used in a diffuser, anise essential oil is wonderful for relaxation, and for balancing. It is a great oil when used appropriately.
If you would like to purchase some anise essential oil, you can find it in our Essential Oils Section of the Enchanted Works online catalog.
