What Is The Art Magic Project?
The Art Magic project is centered around a nineteenth century book given to Mikki by her grandmother. The book is called "Art Magic or Mundane, Sub-Mundane and Super-Mundane Spiritism. A Treatise in Three parts and Twenty Three Sections."
The book was published by the Progressive Thinker Publishing House in 1898, and edited by Emma Hardinge Britten, a noted Spiritist of her time. More information will be presented on Ms. Britten as time permits.
The project is essentially to transpose the fragile book into electronic format so that it can be studied by as many people as possible. It is a rare glimpse of "the occult" as seen through the eyes of a nineteenth century medium. Some of the ideas in the book are still pertinent to Modern Wiccan thought, and the hope is that some of our current beliefs can be traced in a more direct way to nineteenth century beliefs.
A working group exists in electronic form to discuss the work, provide information on typos to be corrected, and look over the comments that are provided by those who read the book. A "translation" of sorts is in the works on a section by section basis, to attempt to modernize some of the information.
This book and the corresponding discussion and reports make up Mikki's Third Circle project for ordination into the Church of Universal Eclectic Wicca.
Please feel free to write to Mikki if you'd like further information or wish to help. Email her at ooblick at cyberflight dot com.
